Stocks…for dummies?

Where to start...I am a 28 year old male who knows absolutely nothing about stocks, buying, and trading.
I have come into a little money but can't access it until the end of the year and I was thinking about things I can do to make that money grow so I can one day have enough money to put a down payment on a house or buy a house as well as plan for my future.
I got to thinking about those ...for dummies books and would like to know what you all think would be the best ones I can buy....again I am completely oblivious about the whole stock trading deal and would like to pick up some reading material on stocks for beginners etc. that explains it all in a simple and understandable language (no jargon).
First read "Investing for Dummies" which provides a good overview on different types of investments and investing fundamentals. then, for more detail on stocks, read "Stock Investing for Dummies."

The simplest and easiest to use simulator is here:

I also like the Thinkorswim trading platform, and it has the indicators you need, but will take you awhile to learn. Personally, I use NinjaTrader, but it will cost you for the data feed ($45/mo) for stocks, but the data feed is free for futures and forex. Both programs are free to download and try.
Before you trade, develop a trading plan. that will give you the setup, trigger, stop, profit target, risk, and risk/reward ratio. If you don't have a plan or can't trade the plan, you got nothing.
There are hundreds, if not thousands of setups and triggers (indicators/trading systems), so pick one. but concentrate fully (the most important part of success-fully) on sound trading strategies. This is the hardest part, because it generally goes against human emotion. This is why most traders fail -- think about it -- we all have access to the same 1,000 different trading systems and same data and information. only a few can overcome the psychological barriers preventing them from being consistent.
Example: rather than chasing price and buying high, giving in to your greed factor and fear of missing out, buy low when it comes back to support or your moving average or fibonacci retracement. only then will you find yourself to be a trader, when price comes crashing down to your objective, and you're able to hit the buy button when it hits your target according to plan, but it's going against your natural and emotional predilection and fear of losing.
If you trade a plan precisely for 100 simulator trades successfully, you're ready to use real money, or revise the plan.
What time of the day does stock trading begin on the West Coast?

I really don't know what time the markets open.
I'd guess that it's 9 a.M. Eastern-6 a.M. Pacific
but I don't know for sure.
Is there an easy online refernce for the various international exchanges?
It is 9:30 AM Eastern time til 4:00 in the U.S. and I think its pretty close in other markets.
To trade on the West Coast, you have to get up early and trade while the East Coast Markets are open. There isn't a West Coast market.
Trading is done between 9:30am and 4:00 pm Eastern Time ![]()

What is a good short term Forex stratedgy? I saw one that offered 3 trading systems, one minute a day for $97.

Hi Arnold,
After trying many different Forex programs, robots, etc, and spending countless hours trying to study charts and read graphs, the FreedomRocks Forex Trading System has turned out to be one of the only true money makers for me and I feel really good about promoting it because it really does make money in the short term as well as the long term. you can get setup on a 15-Day Free Trial at www.smartforexinvestor.com and see how easy it is to double your account or more each year and beat out any hedge fund, mutual fund, stock, 401k, etc. It's a very safe hedging system and the software does 95% of the work. If you have any questions at all please feel free to call me or email me anytime. I look forward to speaking with you soon!
Best regards,
